Rose - you left a comment on my blog in reply to an email I sent (I really hate how the internet works like high-tech phone tag), suggesting my 1910-1917 built house might be a Gordon Van Tine. I looked at the GordonVanTine site and saw that Dale Wolicki has a large collection of pre-1920 GVT catalogs, none of which I have ever seen online or available in print. Would it be possible for you to pass on my email address to him? I am curious if my house or one very like it is in any of those catalogs.

Thanks so much!

I am the owner of what has to be the absolute smallest kit home in the country. It is located in Western Pennsylvania. It has a kitchen which is 7 X 10, a "living room" which is 6 X 13, a bedroom that is 9 X 13, and a bathroom that has a floor space of 5 X 6. There is no basement and no second floor. The outside measurement of the Aluminum sided home is approx. 13 X 21! Not sure if it is a Sear's home like an elderly neighbor told me 35 years ago. I would love to send pictures to someone who knows about these gems. Email me at Bill9189@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Hi!

I just purchased a home in the maryland suburbs of Washington DC in April that I'm almost convinced is a Gordon Van Tine home. Here are two interesting issues:

1. I can't find a label or number on any beam ANYWHERE. Do you have any advice on where to look? I'm going to remove the bath cabinet to clean it and I'm wondering if there may be a lable on the back or something.

2. It's almost identical to the 1929 ROYCROFT design, but some minor changes like fireplace added, and different window choices from the original rendering. Do you know if they offered the Roycroft design in other years? My original deed says the house was purchased by the first owner in 1935. Would they have sold a 1929 design like the Roycroft in 35, or would they have discontinued it by then?

I'm limited in funds but I'm trying to stabilize the place really restore it as much as I can. It's a BEAUTY and the inlaid floors on the first level are just amazing.

Thanks!
